I just got through watching the last ten minutes of the Broncos and Ravens game. I only turned it on after my daughter in law, my niece and my wife’s cousin all commented on face book about how upset they were about the game. I don’t know if it is my age or lack of passion that has me not caring about sports any more. I watch the games and I can get excited about good plays but really could care less about who wins or loses. I think that some of my blase is because I grew up in Los Angeles with the 1980′s Dodgers, the Los Angeles Rams and all the great Laker teams. Kobe is great, but Jerry West, Magic Johnson, and Kareem might have spoiled Basketball for me. Fernando Mania, Don Drysdale’s shut out string, and the Lasorda years with the Dodgers were fun but they eventually made you realize something. You realize it is just a game and next year there will be another team and new players that may or may not live up to your expectations.
The thing I think I find funny about today is it is the women that are so riled up about the games. I know my mom liked the Dodgers but I never heard her get really excited about the games. She loved Jim Lefebvre, never got worked up about baseball. I wonder what has changed to bring such feeling from the younger women.
